Hey I have looking into these for quite a while now. I am interested in getting a shark pond, and wanted to know if anyone had information on building one of these. If anyone has any books they would like to recommend it would be greatly appreaciated. Please email with any additional information at Smoneyspad@aol.com

here's a suggestion, shark ponds are usually big obviously, so i would try and contact the local aquarium if you have one. they have obviously a lot bigger tanks, but they probably could steer you in the right direction.

I would check out NOVICE 150 website. I don't have the link, but I know it is posted on many of his other threads. He kept a great log of building his tank.

I am sure there are lots of options out there. Where I used to work they built an above ground system - about 3000g, but very shallow and long. Basically it is built as an above ground pond - just like a freshwater one. There is a wood/plywood frame with pond liner over it. And of course a sand filter etc as well. But all in all (apart from the money) it wouldn't seem to be an extremely difficult thing to come up with plans for.

I plan on making one in my house come febuary or march. I have been setting it up with my LFS. I am basically going to be taking a 300-500 gallon rubbermaid horse trough then masoning bricks or stones of some sort around the outside so it looks nicer with a couple wet/dry sumps hooked up to it. I have the plans at the LFS. It isn't finished yet, but that is my basic concept so far. A lot less expensive compared to a glass aquarium.

I've seen a pond with huge lionfish and puffers in a store in Atlanta, The Fish Store and more located in buckhead. It looks like they have a regular pond, like the one for kois outside houses. I don't know what kind of filtration systems they have.
Maybe you can give them a call, they have a website:

Good luck

hey if i were to build a shark pond in my back yark, how would you prevent the racoons and other rodent like cats fishing them out and such? is there someway to cover the pond? and does anyone have an example of an outside pond?

I would NOT recommend one in your backyard outside. You can't control the weather. Unless you live in the tropics your sharks would probably die. Also the water quality issue would be a major problem, with other creatures using your pond.
