Considering leaving the boards.... for good....

Personally, I think that politics should be left in the home and not a very big conversation piece. It's a very heated debate when it comes to who prefers who. Let's leave the aquarium conversation to other things less heated. I like talking to everyone in here and would hate to see people leave because of all this political stuff.
Besides, I've noticed that you provide a lot of information and that is very valuable to people like me who are still a little green on the whole saltwater thing. You're appreciated.

M0nk, I feel EXACTLY the same way that you do. I have thought about leaving for good, but have decided to not actively participate in the forum until after the election. Hopefully it will calm down, although I kind of doubt it. There is just way too much hate and spite in the threads. I also don't think the new post thing will work. It is the same 5 people who are stirring up the pot and come straight here to look at the threads.
Personally I think they should make a sub section of the aquarium just for political threads. That way all the hate mongering can go there all day long. I know you can say ignore the threads but with the titles full of spite it can get to you.
I can go on and on, but I won't. I just hope things change in the next couple of days.

Scott, you would Never...

Actually, I agree with both you and monk, but not to the extent of leaving. Just stroll over to the New Hobbyist section for a day or two and try to find a new, incoming thread where you can help some newbie out. It only takes a few posts with them and you start getting into their situation and forgetting about all the junk going on in the Aquarium section.

Well, yeah, I think I'll do as some have suggested and just hang out in the New Hobbyists section for a while and not hit the New Posts link anymore... at least until it's been adjusted to remove the Aquarium.... or maybe just wait out the election and post-election hubbub.

No need to be a drama king. Just dont go to threads you dont like. Plain and simple. There is someone I do not like on this board so I just do not go to his thread. And for the new post thing, Just ignore the politicial threads.

This is one of the reasons I suggested that the Aquarium posts not be put on the New Posts page and left to their own little section where you had to consciously go to it. They do muck up what I believe the founding fathers of SWF were trying to do when they set the boards up, and that is to open discussion and a place to gain and share knowledge. Hang in there Monk, it can't last too much longer. Maybe just take a hiatus for a while and let the political posts run their course and peter out.
To the mods, please reconsider taking the Aquarium posts off of the new posts page so that all of the noise that happens there does not interfere with reefing......

Good idea.

Just use the USER CP.
I have looked all through there. I would like to have the ability to lock out the aquarium on my account. But then again, I would miss out on this thread as well all the I<3 ones......I"ll be happier Wednesday.

I doubt it...This board has been going downhill for quite sometime..Most post are in the aquarium not, and the ones that arent get snide comments and rude answers its becoming alot like --, I am on here for maybe 20 minutes a day, I used to be on all day.. its getting insane on both sides.. i think we are about mid way down the spiral

I agree the political threads are becoming too over the top . I can see one or two debates. But half the threads are political and if they are not political they soon will be . I come here to escape the days drama . I see enough political BLA BLA BLA on tv and even driving down the road .

I don't think I have ever read one of the political threads so don't know exactly what you are talking about, but hope you don't leave. Try not reading any threads that are titled with a political interest and you may not become as agitated about what other pple in the land of the free have to say. Especially when what they say has no bearing on you as an individual and what you believe in and can do as an individual to support your government of choise whether by voting, supporting/rallying for or just living the way you think is right and proper.

it'd be a daaaaaaamn shame to loose the kewl ones b/c the buttheads r being themselves too loudly.
stick around. ignore the politics, it'll go away. u don't have to read the stupid things. i know i don't. everyone will get their brains back in a little bit.
if ur really miffed, i say take a week or two off - then come back. it should be at least a little better by then.
