I am thinking of getting a 125 gallon and start a salt water aquarium. I had a 110 gallon years ago and was very succeesfull and enjoyed it very much. Anyway.....can you experts out there give me some basic info, to help me make up my mind. Lighting, filtration ect. What exactly is a reef tank and can you put fish in a reef tank. I have been reading some but it seems kind of confusing to me at this point.
Thanks in advance.

It's a great hobby but expect to pay about $35 to $40 a gallon when all is said and done. My only advice is to listen to the advice you get on this web site. They've helped me a great deal over the years. The last thing I'll tell you is to go slow. It's a blast just watching the tank develop.

A reef tank is a tank that contains corals. You can have some fish in these tanks however you have to be careful that they are not aggressive because if they are they will eat everything much llike an oscar and a goldfish. With a reef talk you need very strong lighting. Your basic floresent light strip just wont do. Most soft corals like between 4-8watts of light per gallon I believe. Anyway enjoy the hobby its fun and like rcbc said there is a wealth of information on these message boards all you have to do is ask and you will have your answer.
