well Mike Pereira (head of NFL officiating) gave his spin on the controversial rulings...
first the Time Out: even though the rule states that the head coach has to give the time out, when the SJ has his attention focused on the snap of the ball he will award the TO to whoever is yelling for it so his attention is not taken from the ball...
i guess i can see that, but they need to reword the rule then...
second the "bobbled" ball on the game winning TD: he stated that the receiver always had "finger tip control" (whatever that means)... even though the palms can be seen and why the ball appears to move is because the receiver was tucking the ball... and that it was ruled a catch so there needed to be indisputable evidence... and upon his review the correct call was made...
i dont agree one bit with this call... the ball appears to float into his arm as he is "tucking" the ball and he was out of bounds at this time...
all in all the Ravens missed some key plays to put the Pats away and failed to do so... it was a great game and now onto week 13...

I am somewhat of a football addict and I've never seen the fingertip control thing called before. The ball isn't supposed to move. In this case you could planly see the ball was moving. It was never secured. If the head official is now calling it I think there must be something to the conspiracy theory.

i agree... hence the reason i said "whatever this means"...
i do understand the timeout... but it shouldnt have happened... BUT if the SJ is distracted there should be a penalty...
so hopefully this rule is re-worded next season... and they will call it the "Rex Rule"...

Well, that will be reworded by next year,
I still have never seen the finger tip thing called, but I do think he was tucking it. And that he was in control of the ball, so whatever. I guess, that is why it is a judgement call. There just isn't ANY CONSISTANCY! That is my problem, you would think, paying these guys thousands of dollars a game, they could get together and agree on something, and call it the same way every time.

I've called ball in highschool and college, it isn't the NFL but come on it isn't the hard to be consistant.

Yeah but when the announcers on gee the NFL network sound more like they are reading from a script than watching a game you gotta wonder whats up. That TD "catch" was close enough to get wrong but when the announcers take one look at the replay and say it was an obvious catch? Gimme a break, same thing with the interferance call before that.

yes that is true but how many refs does the NFL have?...is is easy to be consistank with 3-4 refs but how many do they have?...35-40???(i have no idea)...as the number gets higher so does the posibility for missed and incorrect calls...

its all a judgement call...they have like 3 min to look at the play...the interferance call and the TD were opinoins
of the refs...

I am no Pats fan thats for sure, but they had to deal with worse officiating against them in their win over the Colts.
