Acrylic is not as ridged as glass so an identical span of acrylic need to be much thicker than glass. Also there is no reliable way to bond glass and acrylic since silicone will not adhere well to acrylic. Check with your local glass shop, glass is actually cheaper than acrylic I got a price for a broken pane on a 55g I had and it was $25 for a 48"x20" piece.

I can tell you from failed projects, acrylic and glass won't bond. Acrylic must be thicker like the above person said to have same strength and not flex. I just had 1/4" glass panels cut for my 55g sump and 5 baffles was only $22. Way cheaper than acrylic and much nicer. Go with glass.
