Conversion question

I would like to convert from a FO to a reef tank.
I currently have a sand bed. I understand one of the things I need to do is add LS and LR.
My question is can I add LS to the existing sand bed to "seed" it, or will adding the LR be enough to do the job?

keep the existing sand bed. how deep is the sand bed ? 3 to 4 in is needed. You will have to check water parameters because a FO tank water does not have to be as prestine as a reef tank water. Rule of thumb is 1lb of live rock per gallon of water

I have about 2 inches of sand because it was FO. So I will have to add more to get the 3-4". So since I have to increase the bed depth, should it be LS? I assume you are saying the LR will be enough to "seed?"
BTW the tank is a 37g.

LS or dead sand. It will become live. 37gal what kind of lighting you have or are going to get ?

Because of the canopy, I was thinking a compact fluorescent system. Any suggestions?
