Converted to PCs.....Very Hot!

I just spent today converting my Eclipse hood into Power Compacts. It is 65 watts and it is running much hotter than the previous bulbs. Is this normal? Will I have to adjust my heater so my water doesn't get too warm?

and the heater ...well, it should be running off of a thermostat that you set yourself. i wouldn't touch the heater. it will just run less :)
if you are getting that much heat, and you install cooling fans as falcon metioned you should be ok, IMO. also, you will be having to add back fresh water more often :)
GOOD LUCK, and keep those pics coming!

Thanx for the tips. I wonder where I can put a cooling fan in an eclipse top. I will try to figure something out.

power compacts are hotter, if i were you i would get rid of the hood, the filters are under rated fot the tank size. building your own canopy is cheap and fun, i would. you could put a fan in easier, too.

You can modify an eclipse hood easily. Heat up a knife and then you can cut the hood like butter;) . I had to do some modification to get my sea clone skimmer to work with the eclipse hood. It doesn't look as good, but gets the job done.
