hello, I have a 29g reef ATM and I am wanting to switch it into my new 75g the problem I am having is getting my 75 ready for my coral and fish from my 29g.
I have a coralife 125 skimmer and a marineland 55 canister both running on the 29 should I use my skimmer to cycle the 75 or should I use my canister? whatever one I use for my 75 the other will be on my coral tank until it is cycled.
thanks! all of your posts are much appreciated.

i would use the canister on the 75. its gonna have the majority of all the bacteria you need inside the filter pads and all over the media in the filter. these will help speed up the process of breaking down the ammonia and nitrites and help colonize the beneficial bacteria much faster. you may want to also look at getting another filter for your 75 since the filtration you had on a 29 most likely wouldnt be adequate for a 75 whether it is a canister filter, HOB, sump, or some other type of mechanical, chemical filtration. then you could run that one on the 29 and let bacteria in that tank inhabit the media, sponges of that filter and have the canister filter you currently have cycle the 75 then put them both on the 75. i have two canister filters (one that runs up to 45 gallon tanks and one that runs up to 80 gallon tanks) and a HOB filter/skimmer combo. you are gonna want the added flow another filter with a pump will bring to the tank. goodluck on your build.

I use 2 canisters as well, I thought I was the only one... LOL
You need to get live rock in the 75 ASAP...the 29g you have running still needs it's filter. The rock is a filter, and will help in getting things moving along. Use power heads to create flow in the 75g.
Since you have livestock, you have to keep the 29g running while you prepare the 75g...so you can't take the equipment off of it until you switch.
