LOL. I managed to luck up with my husband. He started out at this hobby -just- to appease me. ( I've wanted a salt tank for as long as I can remember. Since I was a little girl. ) He bought me the tank for Christmas, and from there we proceeded with buying everything slowly. We don't make a whole lot, but we can afford the tank. Meanwhile, an unhealthy addictive glow started to gleam behind his eyes as we discussed the different fish, live rock, filtration and lighting. Soon he was every bit as obsessed with me. It's become our new hobby, and when we aren't adding to it, we typically relax with music and watch the tank. It's really cut down on the cable bill if nothing else!

Too bad they stopped the story of the month...such a sweet SW tank love story.

LOL. Yeah Flower, I think it rivals titanic most definitely.......
It is a really fun and addictive hobby though, and it makes it all the more fun if you can enjoy it with your family...

I am picking up a 40 gallon tank today and going to be in the process of adding live rock and corals in the next 6 months. What kind of good fish would you recommend to start with. This is going to be my 1st salt water tank I'm excited to finally be able to begin this patient process. Thank you

Sound like you're having fun. Perhaps too much but fun anyway.
Just some oversimplified advice: start your new tank with macro algae right from the start. Then do the rest.
The idea is that regardless of what you do you are going to get algae anyway even if just the algae (hopefully corraline) on the live rock.
so if you start the tank balanced out and stablized with macro algaes maintenance and water conditions are much healthier for you fish.
But then that's just me and my.

Speaking of coraline... I've been the hobby for basically a year now.....
When does that stuff start to take over? I've got a few patches here and there, but nothing major.....
Once you get your tank up and running you'll get the bug even worse! I'm still amazed that I have no coast any where around me (I've got to drive at least eight hours to touch ocean..) and there's a piece of the sea swimming around in my dining room as if it were the most natural thing in the world....
