mmmm nothing says bbq copods like a uv and even a chiller could be enough of a shock to kill em.

I dont know if you have every thing planed yet but here is my opionion. deep live sand bed 5 to 7 lbs of live rock and chato. Chato dose not go sexuall at night like curlupa. sexuall meaning it emits the trates back in the water once the lights go out. mangroves are trees and imo trees get big. Some people swear by them but after bout 2 yrs you have to replac them

So how do I get around this? I don't want to get rid of the chiller or the UV. But the main point for this whole project is to have a breeding ground for the copods.

When you mess with a stable system you are asking for trouble. A Fuge is an option along with all of the other options. I personally have always had very shallow sandbeds and a good Skimmer and have always had beutiful healthy tanks. There are many ways to go but the more stuff you add to filter the water you more you have that can go wrong.

Crap!!!!, now I know why I'm not seeing any pods!!! I'm unplugging my u/v tonight.
I can't believe I didn't think about that.

Thanks

you might want to look into making a fuge out of a tank and just silicon the baffles in, that what i am doing.
I am taking a 40 gallon long tank 48x13x16 and making it a fuge, mines going to look something like this when i'm done, just a quick sketch.

looks good but you should move your skimer or you will pull the pods out before they reach the tank

ya, that was just a quick sketch i had made a couple of weeks back, my skimmer will be going before the fuge, not after.
But you get the idea...

OK...You made me update the pic! LOL!

It's gonna be something more along the lines of this but in more detail, just a quick sketch.

I have a 40 gal I was going to make into a sump/fuge too. I thought the LR rubble went in with the macro algae. Is it better to put it before the skimmer? This is my concept below.

Some people use rubble rock in there w/d insted of bio balls. So they would go before your skimmer, but you also need lr in your fuge for your copods to dwell on. therefor you could put rubble rock before and after you skimmer.

Yea but if you over filter ,something could go rong and one of the other filters could corect the problem. imo.
I love to over filter I have a 75 filter setup on my 46 bow and plan to setup a 200 capacity filter on my 125 :jumping:

Sign Guy, Thanks for all of the info I am going to have to find the time to convert my W/D there is just not enough room under the tank to add a seperate fuge with all of the rest of the equipment. But that means reconfiguring everything. As I mentioned in a previous post, after the w/d I have the UV and then the chiller before entering the D.T. and it will be defeating the whole purpose if I am going to lose the pods. I wil try to take a picture of the current set up and post soon to see if anybody has any other suggestions.
