Converting my reef tank to fresh water!

I finally made the big jump and turned my sw tank to fw! It took months of research and a lot of money but I'm happy I did it. I downgraded my lights, removed my skimmer, replaced my ls and lr with gravel and threw out my test kits and additives. I've got 2 goldfish and a real cool sunken ship w/airbubbles! Now I'll be able to sleep at night and put my kids through college.

Striker,
I strongly suggest that you seek some professional help!
Now that you will have all this extra money laying around you should seek the advice of a qualified and licensed financial advisor. If you follow their advice and keep discplined you should be able to retire soon.
Congrats on your new found wealth.

Striker- I showed my wife this post and she wants to print it out, frame it, and hang it over our tank! We both laughed our butts off!

you should put a catfish in there, raise it and have supper one night.
i always liked the scuba diver that was hooked up to an air pump, going up and down all day. :)

Striker,
I have a friend who converted his 100Gal tank to a reptile tank. I think right now he got 3 cool looking lizard (not familiar what those called). Anyways, I was just posting this just in case you want to go this route. Goodluck.
Ray.

Man if I could get the guts to make that move my wife would be so happy!!!
I could probably afford that big ring she has been wanting for the past 12 years!!!!! :) :)

I am curious... I have always pondered a contingency plan in th event of a total meltdown in my tank. So...
when converting to FW, does everything have to be trashed... can i bleach out live rock and reuse? Also, can a skimmer be part of my FW filtration system? Regarding lights, would I keep my MH's if I want to grow FW plant life?
Stryker... Red Devils.... awesome fish!... Mine was called Hecuba... loved that thing man!

Hello everyone, I didn't really downgrade. I wouldn't trade my reef for the world. Hopefully in 2 yrs I'll add two more tanks to my collection when my wife  and I buy a house. The first thing I do when I get home from a 14hr day is check on my tank and sign on to this board. It's a great way to relieve my stress. I just had my cleaner climb up and feed off my hand. Little things like that are what makes reef tanks so special (no matter what it costs).
