Well she came home the other night and saw i was still checking out this website... Then she got all mad saying we cant afford! its to much work and this and that. So i told her ok your right it is to much money..
On the way home Easter Sunday i told her i was still thinking about getting a tank maybe not now but after we take care of some finances we could get it.
So later that night we were relaxing on the couch and i had the lap top with me. So she says show me a cool website... so i immediatly take show her this site.
So we spent the evening looking at different fish.. and a couple of different peoples set ups.... Couldnt really find to many set ups though.
So all is going well i guess lol.

Not to rain on the parade... But your wife sounds like a tough cookie.. Be honest with her... Saltwater tanks are expensive to setup but they are beautiful to look at.... Can't you take her to some good fish stores in your area to see their show tanks?

Tackle her and prove her wrong. :hilarious
There are many ways to make a saltwater aquarium affordable to set up. You don't HAVE to have a reef, you could have fish only. With that setup you would only have to have fish, salt water, NO lighting, substrate, equiptment and the tank and stand. If you're wanting a reef, you could do several things to make it cheaper without cutting corners. Just remember you get what you pay for unless you make it yourself. Save up for the tank and stand. OR just buy the tank and build the stand. Then save up for your equipment (skimmer, sump, fuge) After you have all of that, save up for you LR and sand, then you fill her up, put in the substrate and LR, and let her cycle. Most of the good cycles last around a month, that's enough time to save up for your lighting and first critters.
BTW a good way to cut costs on live rock purchases is to buy 50-75% dead base rock that is aragonite based, then all you have to buy is 50-25% LR and it makes it so much cheaper. You can buy a solid ton of base rock for $1000, which if you think about it is pretty stinking cheap. That's $.50 a lb.

LOL dont think i need a ton of dead rock... but thanks for the info....
she is definently warming up... we were at her aunts house for easter and her aunt has a 20 by 10 foot granite koi pound with 42 fish in... ranging from 10 inches to 2 and a half feet... it was awsome the fish will come up and suck your finger then spit water at you.... i think that might of helped alittle

I didn't necessarily mean for you to buy a ton, but I was just informing you that base rock can be bought fairly cheap compared to live rock. After time the base will also become live and covered in some very beautiful coraline, depending on light and coraline source.

No, No, No..."Tickle"
Her till she begs for Mercy and gives you what you want...
Otherwise, Cash,Flowers and Diamonds seem to work...
I prefer to mope around the house, with a Long Face, "sighing" heavily from time to time...Till she says "FINE...GO..."

It's a 850 gallon, and I doubt that would be a very good way to convice her. If you show her Steve Weast's 850, make sure she doesn't see how much space it takes up in the garage, and how much space the sump and fuge take up underneath the DT. Not to mention how much extra reinforcement he had to add to his garage ceiling.
