His body not including his tail is probably 3" if not more. I've had him for a month now after he was at the store I work at for 3 months. He eats like crazy and is pretty fat. I don't know how fast they grow. But I do know that it does depend on the diet he gets in captivity.

Purples have been somewhat notorious for being pretty aggressive. It is hard to get tangs of the same species(i think thats the right one) to get along. They need to be odd number, and if there is two, you need to add 2 or more at once. And people run into problems with tank size and all that good stuff. If you had a cycled and established QT, I suggest removing the yellows until the purple is acclimated fully, and reintroduce the yellows, to deter as much aggression the yellows could have as possible. That is if you really want a purple. I love my purple, I've had yellows, but the yellows don't quit match up to my purple! lol

If there is more then one yellow, you will have less of a problem then adding one purple to 2 or more yellows. It would be like sending a little chihuaha to 2 or more pitbulls! The purple will establish his territory w/ the absence of the yellows, but Not only one tang will receive the brunt of all the aggression.

Its hard to pick but if I had to- He hangs upside down in his cave, cleans the fish when they stop by, hand fed, very interactive creature.

Beautiful photos, all.
For my part, this gentleman is said to be a "cigar wrasse". I can't find him, googling. Closest I can locate is a peppermint hog, but our tail is yellow, the hog's are black.
He hides UNDER the sand quite a bit, and is really handy at rearranging small rocks and empty hermie shells.
Also very camera shy.
