maybe this sounds dumb and argumentative but i beg to differ on hot air in a canopy not heating water.i have 300 some watts of 60" vhos in a custom built canopy.before, when i has my csl pc fixture and the top was only egg crate,i had no problem keepin my temp stable at 79.then i got the canopy, had the vhos installed and put it on my tank.lo and behold within 3 days my temp was up to 85,86.so what i did was install two fans.one on one side of the canopy blowing in and one on the other side blowing out.within 3 days again my temp had dropped to 74 degrees.too low.so i turned off the fan blowin in and left the one blowing out.keep in mind that these fans are mounted in the top of the canopy, the door is one big piece that flips up,that is where they are.so by turning off the one fan and having the other suck air out of the canopy it got rid of the heat that was created by the vhos.my temp stabilized to 79.7 within a day.seems to me that heat hangin around inside a canopy is not a good thing.evaporation has not picked up at all.so i also know the fans are not increasing evap.light heat water, but heat hangin around on the top of it also heats it.
