Coming into the summer months here how do you guys keep the temp. down in the tank? Here in California we have had a huge warming trend recently and my tank has warmed up to 81 just curious whats the best way to keep a consistant temp. in the tank? I have a 29 gal.
Thanks

Your choices are pretty limited. You can cool the room, purchase an immersion cooler or rely on evaporative cooling. The first two are expensive but very effective. Evaporative cooling is inexpensive and can cool a tank quite well unless the surrounding temperatures are too high. To do this, just set a fan to blow air across the surface of your sump. This will accelerate evaporation, which cools well (think of your skin on a hot day when a breeze hits the sweat). The main drawback to this form of cooling is that you will need to keep an eye on the water level in your tank since, as water evaporates, the salt in your tank will become more concentrated, raising your sg. Be sure to top off with RODI water regularly.

What type of setup do you have? Usually most of what heats the tank is lighting. Depending on the setup you can raise the lights from the tank, add a fan, etc.
I just keep the AC set at 85 durring the day, and than drop down to 80 at night. Of coarse my tank is rather large so the temp doesn't fluctuate much. The PG&E bill is a killer though.

You can buy a chiller. A 1/10 HP one would be fine for your tank. They do cost a nice chuck of change but do a great job.
Running a fan works well. Can probably do a 5 degree drop in temp with this method.
