Copepods

out of curiosity lets say i buy a bottle of copepods and pour them into my emperor 400 behind the filter pads will they settle on there and start reproducing and eating any leftover crap my filter catches ? will it introduce over time more pods into my DT and would be enough for a dragonett ?

i would have to say they will love it in your filter, but with the information you have given me i am unsure if it would be enough
we woul dneed to know your tank size and how much LR you have in your tank, i wouldnt put a mandrin in a tank smaller then a 75, you just cant fit enough rock into a tank smaller then a 75 to keep a good stock of pods in your tank with a mandrin

Yes, some would settle in there and love it, but it would take a whole lot more than that to keep that fish alive for very long, unless you have lots of live rock, fuge, etc and give that batch 6 months or more to infest the tank.

ah ok well my tank size is 55 gallons and at the moment i have 10lbs of fiji live rock and about 50 lbs base of which i can already see some algae growth on especially coralline....so what you are saying is i should do what i stated above but let my tank mature for half a year or so ? im guessing thats enough time for the pods to multiply into my DT and let them settle on/in rock but if it means buying a bottle of pods once a week if it isn't enough then so be it ...every day then no way lol

Anything and everything in your tank will readily take and eat pods, so you need a secure area for them to propagate in. This IMHO can only really be achieved in a secure area such as a refugium with LR and Chaeto..

how is your tank set up do you have overflow boxes that feed the water to a sump, if so and you have filter matereal prefiltering the water gong to your sump you can use that area for pds just turn off your filter take out the machanice filter material and rinse the pods into a bucket
