Ok then how long has the tank been set up? Are you treating in a ht or is the ammonia in your main tank?

I started the tank on 6-3-01 and it cycled on 7-24-01 I added a yellow tang and a powder blue tang on 7-29-01 there were 12 damsels from the day after I set up the tank.(6-4-01) On 8-2-01 the powder blue tang died. On 8-12-01 I took out all the damsels except the two blue ones, and added 2 hermet crabs (since have died) 1 horseshoe crab (he died over this weekend) I think all due to the copper. 1 long nose butterfly (he brought the ick into the tank, he had a little on him when I purchased him, I did not think it was a problem,I know better now!!!)He also died 8-20-01. 1 clown,1 squirrel, and another powder blue tang.
When I started the tank I started to keep a log, that is how I remember the dates. I added 8oz more of bacter plus today because the ammonia is still high. I'm afraid the fish are going to die. The color green in the test tube doesn't even match the colors on the chart. Thats pretty scary. I have the amiracle wet dry filter, the red sea berling protein skimmer, and the Aquanetics UV sterilizer.
Thanks Gen

HELP! On tuesday my ammonia was 2.0 ph 7.8 so i did another water change28 gallons out of an 85 gallon tank. on wednesday morning the ammonia was still at 2.0 and i called my lfs owner, he said leave everything alone that by doing the last water change i disrupted the tank ( just like Beth said would happen) he also said to leave the uv sterl. off, i added bacter plus on tuesday night, and then today thursday I added ammo-lock ( i read that on the board) I went out for a little while and when i came home the tank was cloudy. I called the lfs owner again and he said by tank is cycling again!! I took out too much water! Also when i did the water change the bioballs were left without water running over them for about 1 hour while i did the change and that dried up the bacteria, now i have to build up the bacteria again!!!! does this sound correct to anyone. has anyone else ever had this problem!! (And to think, all I wanted for Mothers Day was a Harley Davidson, and my husband comes home with this tank, don't get me wrong I love it, but it's a lot of work if your new at it)
I would appreciate anyones help, It gets so depressing when something goes wrong. especially when you think you are doing it correctly.
Thanks, Gen :(

Well, I must say, I 've stopped posting here, when you decided to continue to dump copper into a new tank. A tank that has just been set up in June cannot possible take any type of copper treatment, let alone copper for 3 weeks, for godness sakes.
No, I'm not here to say I told you so, because what's happened to you and your fish is too sad.
Obviously your LFS resource is a hack, and you need to not only stop going there for advise, but also stop patronizing that store. That store is not only selling you a bunch of junk he's also spouting a lot of bull just to get you to make purchases.
How many fish do you have left? Do they still have ick? I'm sorry, this thread has gotten pretty long, and I've lost track of the events.
The first thing I would do is setup a QT for your remaining fish and horseshoe crab, whether they have ick or not. You can do this pretty cheaply as all you need is tank and PH's. Use the skimmer on your current tank to filter your QT. QT will not need any lighting in your case.
You need to break down your main tank entirely after you have moved every fish over to QT. No substrate in QT. I setup a QT in May, 20gal and put a few pieces of cycled dead coral in it. It never had ammonia or nitrite, so it can be done. Make no mistake. You need to start over with your tank.

WOW! You need to stop and READ a ton. Two powder blues in under a month, in a new tank!
