copper leaching

I have checked Cupramine and I did not find it to leech if you follow the manufactures recommendations.

This risk of it is probably overhyped but it will get into live rock and sand and kill off critters. I hope it is a QT tank!

Agreed. Tank/silicone would be virtually impossible to leech copper, at least to any significant amount with a proper wash in bleach/vinegar. No live rock/sand tho...

The tank was a 25 gal QT it had one 2-3 pound piece of live rock and a bed of CC. At the time there was lots of hype about copper leeching. So I decided to test what Seachem claimed about Cupramine. They claimed you could use it in a glass tank with live rock and a sand bed. I also had a piece of Cheito in the tank. I dosed as instructed. After 3 days the copper reading dropped, it was the Cheito I pulled it out and added more Cupramine to bring the level back up. I let the tank go for a few weeks, I kind of forgot about it…
Then I did a big water change and ran carbon and a copper removing resin as Seachem advised. I let the tank go for a few weeks testing for copper using Seachem MultiTest Copper. At this point the copper reading was undetectable. I then broke the tank down rinsed with water and set it back up with the live rock and CC. I ran the tank for a few weeks testing for copper, undetectable… I now have it set up and I am starting my first deep sand bed in it, and things look good.
Now do I think copper will leech out of your set up? Yes I do, and if you don’t take the time to prove that it will not, you may have some losses…
Remember you need some copper; natural sea water is 0.003 ppm copper

no it doesn't leach. myth that it does and in practice from personal experience makes no difference if the tank was treated with copper in the past. perhaps it can leach from substrate or rock but I'm not sure.
