Copper+lr=bad??

It is corals and inverts you may have a problem with...
Whatever you expose to the copper, ie) Live Rock, may bring traces of that copper with it to the tank you will put it in after curing. I'd be careful.

copper also gets into the silicon that the tank is sealed with. over time it will leach into the water. just somthing else to think about.

the tank had coppersafe in it about 7 years ago and has been set up several different times since then, i just want to use it to cure the lr in, i would think that by now it would be ok... am i off-base? also, how much lr can i cure in a 20h? i'm hoping to cram about 40lbs in there and circulate w/ a hagen 402... sound ok?

Kinda sounds like you are set on using this tank for your LR. But you really should think about listening to everyone's advice, especially since you are askingfor it. Copper is pretty much the worst thing that inverts can be exsposed to. You might get lucky and the copper traces are out of the aquarium, but I really doubt it. Copper s known to stain and seep into things and come out to kill many inverts and reef tanks. Sorry for the bad news, but I would really reccommend against using the tank.

would i be better off to move the fish into the 20 and put the lr into my main tank? the rock is precured, but shipping die-off(you know)
also, i reposted to explain that it had been about 7 years since the tank had copper in it, not to say anyone was wong... i think you are a very angry man

I can't argue, copper is known to leach into everything and leach back into the water for a long period of time. It is well known for being a nuance for future plans. Do not rely on it being gone, ever.
It may be safe, but I too would not chance it. if there are any traces, and they will leach, then most certainly it would wind up in your rock as well(it leaches into everything) which would carry it eventually into the main tank, where it would again leach into the water. HERE this would be a very bad thing.
Do what you wish, we only hope the best, and do not take this all as gospel, just a warning as to what can happen. Good luck in either case.
And if you do decide against it, and want a cheap curing vat, get a rubbermaid container or trash can. Probably even cheaper than a used tank.

what is the smallest tank i could cram 40lbs of lr in? i have a never-used 10, but i can't imagine it will fit in that... what about putting some in stagnant water(i only have 1 extra powerhead) while i cure whatever will fit in my 10? will the other rock die? i can't use anything ugly because i don't have a basement and it is about 30 degrees in my shop

do you have an opened or closed stand for your aquarium?? What about a laundry room, do you have your own? a 20 gallon rubbermaid could fit into a corner or maybe ontop of a dryer(maybe), jsut balance the weight instead of letting it rest solely in the middle of the top)
10 gallon may work, but I think would be pushing it alot, and severely inhibit circulation, maybe a 20 gallon.
Any other corners or hiding places you can think of?? Do you have one bath or 2?if 2, would it be possible to put your vat in the one the public does not see, and you use the guest bath for a couple ofweeks(or vice versa), if a guest bath it could be used only as a toilet for a couple of weeks?? Lets try to get a little creative and maybe we can figure this out.

no, i'm in college and live with my parents and i am not allowed to have anything involving my fish outside of my room (except in the shop, but it's too cold)my room is very full since i moved back home and had to cram everything that was in my house into my room and a storage locker. what about putting a whisper filter on the second tank to get circulation?would that be enough?, i can get another 10g for about $10(Walmart), but would have to drive almost an hour each way to get another 20g (2 tens would fit on my 20stand)

what about moving my cardinals and my blenny to the 20 and letting the damsels go through the cycle in the main tank?

your choice, my optionw would be for the 2 10s, esp if an opened stand, you could do 2 more nanos or something when done curing the rock.

Yeah be careful, an old tank of mine had seals permanently turned blue/green from copper use. better safe than sorry when doing a reef.

wait, that wouldn't work because i wouldn't have anywhere to put my shroom:(
maybe i'll take a trip to get me a 15, i wanted a 15 on top of my 20 anyways, maybe i'll turn the 20 into freshwater and use the 15 to cure the rock and then turn it into a qt... now what about the rest of the rock... could i stick some in my 75 w/o it cycling again? maybe i'll have to move my terrestrial hermits(they are in the 10)

You can put more live rock into your 75 only if it is fully cured. If there is any die off, you may get another mini cycle.
