copper questions

Joe, I didn't take it personally. I know that even the slightest mistake of a drop of water can mess things up.
Ok folks I have another copper question...Which test kit do I believe? I have an API test, that I'm more comfortable with that says my copper level is .50 and I have the seachem that says it's .30.

I never trust SeaChem tests. IMHO, they're garbage. API copper kit has never failed me

I'm using Cupramine. I have read pros and cons for both. I'm just afraid of overdosing and killing my fish.

Use the Seachem copper test kit that is compatible with Cupramine.
I would also suggest that she uses the test regent that comes with the kit to make sure that the test kit itself is giving correct readings

Sorry for the delay in getting back with you guys. My 15 1/2 year old dog Louie passed away on Sunday and I haven't felt much like doing anything lately.
I have used the regent that comes with the seachem test. I don't get the .5 baseline results until 60 sec after I stop stirring. It is supposed to be read at 30 sec after stirring. When testing the water from the qt I get a result of .3 30 sec after I stop stirring and a result of .5 just over 1 minute after stirring.

On the 220 FOWLR Diary thread, an seemingly healthy angel died after being treated with Cupramine. I had a similar experience with a French Angel after being told that Cupramine should be ok. I have always assumed that maybe something else had gone wrong with my fish as he was purchased directly from the collector pretty soon after his capture although I saw him eating, there were alot of variables.
Hope your guys turn around soon!

Thanks Joe. I called Seachem today and the lady said to read the darkest reading that I get within a couple minutes. She said the test did not have to be read right at 30 sec past stirring. I also asked about angels and she said that angels seem to be more sensitive to cupramine and other copper treatments.

Dwarf Angels, and Flames in particular, are quite sensitive to copper. I'm glad my friend Joe pointed you to SeaChem tech support---they are excellent.I have acquired many, many new fish since re-locating after Katrina and I've used Cupramine and a SC test kit on all my new fish (in QT) for several years now and have never had an incident that I would blame on the copper or the test kit. IMO, it is vital that the test kit and the copper product be made by the same company. SeaChem, IMO&IME, is an excellent company with excellent products. Also, if a company does not have good tech support, I don't buy their stuff.
