I wouldnt chance it. it can leach back into the water that you are filtering. check and see what the water supply comes in on and if there has been any remod on any thing you might be able to hook up to PVC lines there. check Washer hookups I have seen very few of those that still had the copper piping.

I remember someone asking this question before and it was said as long as the tube is before the RO/DI unit you are ok because it will be removed. You don't want to use copper or brass on your water lines out of the RO/DI unit though.

Beeing a plumber heres an easy answer for you.. the copper we use has a coating on it only the coating on the outside is dulled up when we sweat it together so your chances of getting any copper at all is like getting hit by lightning.
Think on this plumers use to use 50/50 solder for water lines 50% lead and 50% tin. and a lot of houses even have the same stuff still in them if they havent been renovated. Its a big saftey hype ppl worry to much i wouldnt sweat it at all.

I still wouldnt chance it if I could help it. but thats just me.
to much money in the tank for the even the minute chance that copper can get into it.

As long as the copper is before the unit then you're fine. The unit will strip it all from the water. That is - as long as it's an RO/DI unit. I am not so sure if it's just RO. Just make sure EVERYTHING after the unit is plastic.
