copper

I am buying a used 125gal tank from a pet store. They cannot tell me if there has ever been copper of any kind used in the tank. There has not been any used for at least 2 years. It used to be a fresh water tank. I would like to make it a reef/fish/?invert tank.
1) what tests should I do and when to see if there is still copper?
2) how long does copper stay around?
3) is there any way to get rid of copper?
4) what can I put in a tank that has been exposed to copper? I did see a post of no inverts :(
thanks
I need to know this before I can plan my tank and equipment.

The only thing you can do is to fill the tank with water, put a powerhead in it,then let it sit for a couple days to a week. Then test for copper with a good test kit.If no copper is present then you will be ok...I doubt if you will see any in there...
