Curious to know wether I could keep a coral banded and cleaner shrimp together in my 55 reef? Also looking for something to keep the sand clean, in additon to my nass snails?

I think the shrimp will be fine together!(Correct me if wrong)
As for cleaning the sand sand sifting star or a conch!
Hope this helps!

Most likely they will be fine although you could get a really mean cbs, I had those two together in a smaller tank. I wouldn't add a sandsifter star though, they generally starve and the ones that live are stripping all the good stuff out of your sandbed to survive. Do you have a really deep sandbed or is it just getting dirty?

For what it's worth, I posed the exact same question to my lfs guy, who I think is quite knowledgeable and he said you can put a cleaner with a coral banded if the coral banded is from the pacific. He said if it is from the atlantic it will kill the cleaner. Any one else here that one?

My sand bed is not really deep, 40lbs. I just added 2 false perc clowns today, and there being stingy about taking flake food. They ate brine fine this morning. I'm noticing in certain areas of the tank what looks to be small brown looking poops! I cycled the tank with 70LR and 40 lb LS. Anyone know what this is? Just looking to add a couple more critters that scavenge and clean up the bottom. A good sign though I have a lot of small copepods running around on the back glass.

OMG. I gotta remember that! That way, if they die together, well, I sorta said it was gonna happen where as if they are fine, then I anticipated that too! LOL!!
Does your LFS guy happen to know where his own CBS came from?
FWIW, mine were OK together too.

I never thought of it that way. You might be right. Maybe he's full of bleep and has no idea if they are compatable. It does say on the swf cbs page that it's from the caribean - so atlantic. And I got a cleaner with my coral banded and now all I've ever seen is the coral banded. Maybe he was right afterall.

I have a CBS and a cleaner, 3 pepermint shrimp and a purple lobster all living in a 65gal reef.. no problems...been in tank for over 3 years

my purple lobster killed my 6 line in about a week in my 46 gal.
My 1st he cut his fin. I thought I'd give him another chance. Then I saw him eating his Niko's (6line) corpse..
I immediately returned him, which sucks because I really liked McLovin (lobster). The colors are amazing.
I'm glad you had better luck though

could a purple lobster live with an Orange toad fish, 2 bigeyed squirrel fish, foxface, fuzzy dwarf? how big do they get? would it grow fast enough to be too big to become a meal?

I feed my purple lobster silversides and chunks of raw shrimp with a feeder stick about every third day, he comes outta his cave and snatches it of the stick.. he has shed 6 times in the past 2 years and is about 3-4". color are amazing. they will scavange any dead or dying fish however.

You would have to buy a pretty good sized purple lobster to avoid it being a meal.. mine is 4" now and that took over 2 years !! he is cool..
