Coral banded headache

I want this thing out of my tank because I got a sweet deal on a Fire Shrimp, and I'm tired of the aggression towards my fish. I know that I can't put them together, so Mr Fire Shrimp has been chilling out in the sump. I have a home for the coral banded monster, but I'm having a heck of a time catching this thing. Is there any good tricks that you have picked up in this area?

i had the worst luck with a CBS, it killed urchins, stars, crabs, and anything it could get its claws on. i had it for over a year and it shed 5 times. he attacked my trigger many times and finally lost its arm and about 2 weeks later lost the other arm and then finally died. I will not ever get another one again, it was way too destructive.

Have had mine close to 3 years. For the longest time he was chill but now he is my new tank terror. I have heard that is the typical behavior...the older they get the meaner they get. In my case it is true.

No, they are mean when they are small too. Do a search of these boards. Type in CBS. There are very few people that say that they don't bother anything, but unless they have had it for more than a few months, then they haven't experienced it yet. I can recall two people, off hand, that enjoy their CBS and have had it for a good amount of time. Both were in larger tanks with fish that stayed out of the CBS's territory.

hahaha...you are right..i was just watching my CBS right after i read your post...and he was just picking on my blue damsel...my DAMSEL !!! hahahaha....

shut off the the lights then try and catch him If possible get a red light (cause shrimps and crabs can't see redlight) then try the food thing

I had one catch a coral cat (they are venomous) in mid swim and eat it's face. They can be nasty.

I had to catch mine for a recent move. I used a clear specimen container. I submerged the container and very slowly coaxed him into it with an old net. He basically walked right in. I slowly lifted the specimen container so as not to spook him. Voila.
My fish and my CBS have an understanding. We won't mess with you if you won't mess with us. Never an issue with crabs or snails that I am aware of. He does, however, enjoy snacking on bristle worms.

i got mine out with tweezers was the only choice he was attacking my fish he ws alive but i dropped him in my 80 with a puffer he was gone by morning i had no choice he was killin fish.

Really? You don't have an issue in your tank? Which tank is he in and how long has he been there? Neither of your tanks are large, I am surprised that one is doing well and not going after your fish or other shrimp. That is great, I am just surprised.

He was in the 55, then the 72. (55 is down pending possible seahorse or aggressive rebuild) Sold the 100.
Been just over a year, I think. Maybe two. I really don't remember.
He is the only shrimp.

He doesn't go for your fish either? What sized fish do you have? I am sorry to put you on the spot

Niger trigger and maroon clown. Both about 3-4 inches. If they get too close he just brushes them away with his arms, never pinches.
I like the spotlight once in a while.

Hm, if I were a CBS in that tank I would not play around either. I would keep to myself and hope not to be eaten by the trigger who would be my natural predator. You have a wise CBS! We all like the spotlight sometimes
