I detect a bit of sarcasm in the second half of your response...you asked for ideas. Didn't you? Granted, 1 or 2 responses may have been a bit overboard, but people are rather passionate about this hobby. Don't take that personally.
We all want to help each other out...you got advice from members and mods alike, all telling you the same thing. I wish posts that I make received such definitive advice. Often, you get a variety of opinions.

I have the same problem with my coral banded. So far he hasn't gotton anyone. He leaves the firefish, manderin, and clown alone, but he's always running and nipping at my sailfin tang with his claws. IMO the size of the fish doesn't matter. I was worried the cbs was stressing my sailfin, but I have noticed when he's lurking about trying to catch the sailfin-it turns into a game. The sailfin will dart right by him or hang around just out of his reach teasing the cbs. Doing something about the cbs claws has never crossed my mind. I don't think I would do anything to them. IMO the claws are part of his beauty.
Good luck!!!

you could always get a bigger tank so they have more room to fight, or flight. I have an extremley large CBS that I have had for 3 years that goes after my lion, and my huma huma. Now that everyone is in my new 300 they all seem to get along much better. just a thought. My sally lightfoot has jumped on the back of my huma huma many times, only to be taken on a joy ride through the rocks. It's the funniest thing to watch.

Oh I was definitely sarcastic, but joking around. Just a little humor. I really think that I should have changed the post to say, "how can I keep my cbs without losing fish". I love the guy so much, I really cant part with him. I really like the refuge idea and plan on doing it, but I really dont think that it is unnatural to declaw him until then. They will grow back and he has a second set of claws to use until then. In fact, he never even uses his big claws, except to attack. He always uses his small ones when I feed him. Whats the harm. He is the largest predator in the tank and they do lose their claws in nature. Thats why they grow back.

just to let everyone know, I havent done anything to the shrimp yet. However, I measured my wife using a gallon calculating equation from this web site and she weighed in at 17.5 gallons. Pretty impressive. You wouldnt think that from the picture.

Just flush the thing and move on. Afterall, how many inexperienced fishkeepers/reefkeepers kill fish almost everyday. Whats one more CBS?
I'm just kidding of course. I do not really think you should flush him or rip off his pinchers. It would be like a huge hand coming down and tearing off your arm because you keep picking your nose with it. Kinda strange comparison but the idea is there somewhere. :D It hink.

my wife made me take the old picture off and put a new one on. However, it didnt seem to work. If a whole of pictures show up, sorry.

The picture speaks for itself. I didnt have to remove them. When I put my hand under a rock to get him, he pinched on really hard and took off in the other direction. The pinchers just popped free. Maybe they do that as a protective method like lizards.

 You do, of course, realize that is a little hard to believe given the previous posts, don't you?

some people are just plain stubborn. Some creatures are just not suitable to live with others in a tank. I think you are just sick and trying to seek attention. This is real sad.....

Based on my last post Cells, this one may be legitimate...benefit of the doubt...

I deleted everything that I originally wrote in this field because I wrote it in haste. Buzz found a link saying that they do indeed "discard their claws" in self-defense. I didnt read it before I went off on ramble earlier.
End result, by the time this guy grows his claws back, I will have a refugium built into my tank and everyone is happy.

Good place to leave it...I read that post before you deleted it, and I was a bit surprised. I will give you credit for removing it.

thats okay. I was getting a little "snotty" anyway. Noticed your were from Austin. My wife and I moved from Austin, Tx. about 1.5 years ago. We went to Savannah to restore old victorians. We are sick of it now and are moving back in May. They only have one lfs here but they do have the ocean. You can get starfish, silver dollars "great sand sifters", sargent majors anytime you want. However, I really miss aquatek and amazonia.

Welcome back! Austin is really a nice place! I came here 6 years ago and didn't want to move now. :)
Ya, aquatek and amazonia are nice, friendly and helpful staffs, etc, but besides their RO water, everything else is SO EXPENSIVE!!!

If you get to know Gary the owner, aquadome is the cheapest in town. You can negotiate prices with him if you go on a regular basis. However, not the same quality as Aquatek. There is a petshop over by the Arboretum that has decent fish. They had a large shark setup when I was there last.
