Coral Cat Shark

I was wondering how long i should wait putting in a catshark a new 75 gallon aquarium. The aquarium is 75 gallons with 50lbs of live rock all premade saltwater from catalina or wherever it was from. 60lbs of live sand and a filstar xp3. Thanks for the tips also i know it will no be able to live there for live but its in a 5 gallon now so hopefully it will be happy. Last question how are these guys hardy wise.

I had another question would you trust this website to get a catshark or anything else for that matter some of the prices seem a little to good to be true. its called aquatecture and more inc

I dont think we are really allowed to promote other fish websites here on this forum, which is supported by swf.com

Jim 27 i was wondering how pristine does the water have to be to keep a bamboo shark i would like to put one in for a while until it outgrows the tank. Do you think this could work a 65 gallon with a filstar xp3 filter, a marineland emperor 400 filter, and a magnum H.O.T filter. With live sand and 20lbs of lr. Is a protein skimmer neccesary. thanks

Your best bet is to use the 75 for one shark and the 65 as a filter with all the live rock. One of the reasons shark require large amounts of water is dilution of pollution. Large Protien skimmers are a must. A stressed shark will die. And with the filtration you discribe you will spend a fortune on media. A sump with filter felt(rewashable) protien skimmer(large)and maybe some maco algae for trates. And with any animal,Please, plan on for live(that could be years ???). I have three sharks a 265gallon aquarium and 60+ gallons of filtration. Two coral cats and a wobie I hope to be moving them to a larger tank within a year.

I've never heard of a filtar before but IMO a protien skimmer is a must with sharks. I'd also get a wet/dry. The 65 would be ok for around a year or maybe a year and six months.
