Does anyone know what this coral is? The LFS had it listed as assorted corals and the guy wasn't much help. And what is that blue legged crab doing on it? lol When I got it, it was all closed. Now it's slowly starting to open up.

They are zoanthids and the blue legged hermit is just wandering around looking for algae to munch thats all! They won't hurt your zoos. Nice find hope you got a good deal!

When I went back to look at it, the blue crab wasn't there anymore.
Thanks for the id, now I need to do some research on it. The LFS had it in the bargain bin tank of assorted corals. When I brought it home it was all closed and I drip acclimated it for 2 hours, then put it in the tank. Is this one of the corals that move on their own?

no need to drip acclimate ur corals in the future, unless the temp difference is dramatic.

Zoos will just stay put forever, and they expand by budding, so youll see that tiny colony get larger and larger eventually. Also zoanthids are generally hardy corals, and require medium light/flow. Im running 32 watt PCs and 32 watt Actinics during the day in a 24 gallon tank and mine have about 5-6 new buds being formed (after being in the tank for roughly a month). You wont be disappointed, especially with a morph like that

Do I have to feed it something special? I tried to give it some misys shrimp this morning but it didn't want any.

Nope, zooanthids live off of the zooxanthelia that are in them. Just good light and flow, plus all the trace elements that come from regular water changes.

Thanks. I have 234W of T5-HO (6 bulbs of 39W each) in a 65gal tank.
The zoo seems to be doing really good in the spot I placed it in. Today it's fully open.

I hope the lights aren't actually in the tank

Here are some more pictures. It closes when the lights go out at night and opens again when they come on in the morning. I think it's starting to multiply in the back. I looked and there are a bunch of little polyps forming.

It was $25 from the bargain bin tank which had all sort of corals. Even some nice blue mushrooms.
