coral issues ....

I did a water change the other day and since then, my mushrooms continue to look as if there is no light on, all shriveled up and small. They were large and thriving before the water change, what could have happened that is causing them to not look so well???

Do you test your premixing water? Possibly a 'bad mix' ?

i check the salinity and warm it up ... thats about it, but it hasn't seemed to effect the fish or any of the inverts ... just the corals

It would be worth it to test the levels.
What else do you have besides mushrooms? Also, how close are these problematic corals next to other corals in your tank?

i have the blue spotted mushrooms and about two feet away are some brown zoos, and they were both thriving before the water change

Shriveled up does not always mean unhealthy...corals draw up when they feed and stretch way out when they are hungry. With new replenished water they might not have to stretch out as far for what they need. Mushrooms are tough and I wouldn’t worry unless they are disappearing altogether, just drawn up more than usual is no indicator of problems.

the only reason im a little concerned is because i did the water change almost a week ago and not once have any of them stretched out

Are they detatching at all? Disappearing that you notice? Maybe a picture to show what you mean by drawn up. When my true blues are smaller, they have more coloring to them and look fleshy when really, really opened. My striped mushrooms look the same, smaller but the same coloring.
Sometimes they are big and open and sometimes they stay small.
but they are healthy. I have had the blue ones for over 4 years now.

You need to be testing the water change water just like you would your tank water.
Do you have any leathers in the tank?

no leathers ... every time i've done a water change i use the ro water and have never had the mushrooms or zoos close up like this.

Your mushrooms look fine, but I don't understand the zoa problem. Did you clean the filter. or change anything besides your water? How old are your lights, could there be anything on your hands like soap?

nothing changed besides the water, the lighting could possibly need to be replaced and nothing was on my hands like soap ... it was just odd they were closed up right after the water change .. and yes they are a before and after of the same mushrooms.

How long did you let the new mixed water churn before you used it for a water change? It looks like chemical shock to me. Something in the water changed to fast and the coral didn't like it. Or...Did you change the brand of salt mix?

same sale mix ... and i let it sit over 24 hours ... do you think it could have been a slight difference in the salinity ... but wouldn't a chemical change effect the fish or the inverts?
