proper calcium levels and good parameters sure will help. remember, you have to have it introduced into your tank...then it will spread.

Alkalinity is more important IMO. 500ppm Ca is a little high but not out of line. There's no reason to actively lower it.

With a Ca level of 500 it should be around 4.5 Meq/L but that would be difficult to maintain for most people. 2.5 Meq/L - 4.0 Meq/L is the range to go for if it were me.

Thats the 635 million dollar question. Many different options, mostly depending on your budget, and whether you want to dose with a measuring spoon or eyedropper each day. https://www.saltwaterfish.com/site_11...ot_parent_id=6 <--CaribSea Purple Up is supposed to be pretty good and seems to get really good reviews. But thats mostly to raise calcium.
You didn't give a whole lot of info in your first post, but how long has your tank been running? Coralline takes a while to get a foothold, quite a bit longer than the messy undesirable algaes.
To raise both calcium and alk at the same time, you could dose with mixed kalkwasser, via your FW topoffs, best used at night if possible to balance PH swings.
2 part Alk/Calc products are pretty easy to use, but in my experience are best used to maintain rather than raise.

If you only want to raise Alkalinity I'd recommend adding baking soda to your topoff water. Don't try to raise it all at once, start with a tablespoon of baking soda per gallon and see what that does over a weeks time. There is no set dosage, every tank has unique requirements.
DO NOT ADD ANYTHING UNTIL YOU TEST THE LEVELS!

I believe most folks strive for 10% a week.

If you're not using at least RO water IMO you'll always have algae problems due to silicas, phosphates, heavy metals and all kinds of other garbage in your water.

Assuming you have at least one seed spore somewhere in your tank, all you do is wait and do regular water changes. That should be all you have to do maintain your CA, Mg and Alk in proper balance.)
If you don't have a seed spore, go to your LFS and buy a piece of LR that has some coralline on it, put it in your tank ... ... ... ... and wait.

Guy I hope things are going a bit better at home....... Time helps heal a little............

That tablespoon a gallon seems too high. I use it and seldom add more than a few tablespoons to my 100 gallon plus system plus system at a time. I still have at time had Alkalinity jumps more than I wish......

I hope it's clear I meant per gallon of topoff water. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yea that was my thought too, but I was afraid folks would use a TS per gallon of tank water................
