hey guys and girls im kinda new to this hobby and had a quick question in my 55 gallon i have two trumpets one candy i think and the otehr im not sure well heres my problem just yesterday i bought a new coral brought it home aclimated it and then i noticed that the trumpets look like their not opening all the way anymore for example half of it is open and the rest is with drawn (this is on the same polyp) so my question is, what is going on here is it a lack of something to much of another i notived my salinty was high yesterday around .1035 or so so i took some water out and put fresh in to lower the salinty to about .1026-.1030 so i was wondering if that had anything to do with it as of today i am going to do another water change maybe 25% plus im not to sure yet though im going to lfs to ask the same questions but i would like other opinions im not sure if i should be worried or not though everything else is normal amonia 0 nitrate 0 so on and so forth so any help would be cool oh and the temp is steady between 78 and 80.

I think when you have to raise or lower salinity you are supposed to do it gradually so as not to shock your inhabitants

+1 with Meowzer......and 1.025-1.030 is a huge difference........you should never fluctuate that much in your tank unless you are doing hypo treatment for ich. Good rule of thumb is approx 1.025 for reefs and 1.021 for fish only tanks. Inverts and corals generally require higher salinity to survive. IME, definitely pick what number you want and stick to it. This is definitely why your corals are closed up if the rest of your parameters are good. You didn't place them close to each other did you?

One thing I started doing when "not sure" is asking here first...could save you a lot of trouble (and money)

For this kind of thing, regulating chemistry (Ph, Alkalinity, Calcium etc.) - temperature, large swings are bad.
