I have a 45 gallon tank. 2 clowns, 1 star, a few hermits and snails and a tang. I would like to get some kind of coral what would be good to start with. I have a sand bed and live rock.

When I started my 30g I wanted to get some corals that were nice looking and easy to care for. I got some xenia, Metallic Green Star Polyps, a Kenya Tree, and some mushrooms. All of the above are easy to take care of, relativly cheap, and grow pretty fast as long as you have at least ok lighting and good water.

I only have 17w of lighting. I plan to upgrade. I am working on getting my pic of the star. I don't know what he is called. Give me a min. to get pic up.

? Batik starfish?? Do not know if they are reef safe. I tried to google them, but there is not much information on them. Looked like from a few posts that they may not be. This site sells them, take a look at the pic and see if they match up!

That star will eat coral. So get rid of him and get some much better lighting, then we'll talk
If you want an anemone, get a good (name brand) metal halide or t-5 set-up with individual reflectors.

go spend 200-300 on some good halide lights and you will be in business.
I second the starfish problem... keep him until you upgrade your lights, and when you are ready for coral you can find him a new home
Good Luck
