Oh wait I forgot to ask how long is your tank from side to side? Mine is 30 inches across, so the main reason I have 2 is so I can get an even amount of light from one side to the other. So if your tank is the traditional style I would recommend 2 for the best spread of light but if your tank is the cube style then I think you will be fine with just 1.
