No it can be used as a hang on model to.The second pic i have it hanging on my sump.It gave me more room in my sump but its tuff to empty because of the stand.

Was wondering how tall it is - I'm needing to replace the skimmer I have but I think I would run into the same problem with it being to big for under my DT.

You can get the specs on line.You need at least 8"wide by 24" tall.
