I just started using my moonlights again after a small hiatus. The kind I purchased are regulated by a small dimmer that simulates the moon cycle. You can turn them up or down in intensity whenever you'd like or set them to automatic and each day the lighting will change to match what the moon would do. I like them, but they were kind of expensive and I probably need at least one more two-bulb set (you can add on as many lights as you'd like through daisy-chaining) to get the optimal coverage.

If you are good with electrical you can dim a low voltage system. you need to dim it after the transformer though. you have 120v doing into the trans and 12v coming out of it to supply the LED's. if you can intersept the 12v side of the system you can put a regular dimmer on it to dim them. Not advised if you have no electrical experiance though.
Honestly there reallt is no need to dim them. If you don't want that much light you can either paint over one of the lights or put a piece of black electrical tape over one of them.

I think you all are talking about these ones here. they work great. I built mine with 470nm LED's. there is a guy on eB-- that sells the exact ones. I built mine for less than $40.00 though. here is a pic of the moon lights.

Jesses89,
I live in San Antonio, TX and bought the CoraLife setup at an LFS. It's the system with several lights (I believe 260 watts total), the moon lights, and two cooling fans. I paid $210 for it. I like it, but the algae on my class has started to take off. I need more snails! The moonlights are so cool!
