Coralife waterfall

I was awoken at about 4:30am to what sounded like a waterfall next to my head. I flipped on the lights and saw that my coralife hob skimmer was pushing large amounts of water out of the collection cup. When I went to bed last night there was about a quarter inch of dark green waste in the cup as I keep it set on dry skim in order to avoid an overflow from setting it on wetskim. The skimmer is now turned off and after a couple of hours the carpet is now pretty dry. I havent added anything to the tank in a few months and have no idea what would cause an overflow. I'm kinda ticked off about the skimmer and debating I'm buying a new brand. Do any of yall know what could have caused the overflow? Also what brand hob skimmer would you recommend as a replacement? Money is not an issue on the new skimmer as long as it does not act up like the coralife.
Thanks,
Jordan

Check the air intake hose attached to the pump (underwater) and the air silencer camera case looking thing. Salt often creeps into the tube at the pump and clogs causing the water to overflow the cup. When it is clear it makes a suction noise that reminds me of the air controls on an airplane. I check mine every day and clean it at least once every 3 weeks or so.

Two things could have caused this. I myself have a corallife SS 125 and this exact thing happened to me but unforunately it didnt wake me up and i lost about 20 gallons out of my 50 gallon system and it broke my auto topoff system, I havent been brave enough to look at what it did to the carpet. One thing that could have happened is that you added something that it didnt agree with. I had a red slime problem once and when I added the chemical to kill it I was forced to turn my skimmer off due to it going crazy and bubbling everywhere. What could have also happened and what happened to me was I messed with the dial on how much water it took up and cause it to take to much. Make sure your dial is right and there are very little bubbles in the clear middle section.
