i had a idea , i have this little rock in my tank about 2 inch x 1 inch , that is loaded with coraline ..... now ive heard of scrubbing it to spread it but what if i took this rock chipped the coraline off , crushed it up reeal fine and then dumped it back in my stank so it will seed the rest of my tank >??>?>?>??>?>?>

it sounds like it would work better than just scrubbing it with a toothbrush. There can't be any harm in it, though. Try it and lemme know how it works... you know in a few months... if you remember...

if you want coralline come over to my house. I will be happy to give you ALL my coralline, its growing quicker then weeds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cant keep up with the daily basis cleaning the front side of the tank, i will clean it today and then the next day its back!

i know what u mean hahahaha. i couldn't wait to get it now it just takes over everything heheh

I tried the toothbrush and scrubing the coraline, but it looks like it is receedingwhere I scrubbed, and i don't see any other growth in my tank, other than where it barely started before the scrubbing. Any ideas how to get coraline??

test your calcium levels. Coraline is a calcium-based algae, so if your leves aren't good, the coraline won't grow.

yeah make sure your calcium is at 400 ............. i have plenty of coraline just thinking of new ideas

how long has your tank been set up , when did you scrub it with your toothbrush ..........
take a before and after pic of your tank , it will be easier to notice the new Coraline ,
if your sure its not spreading go ahead and throw some purple up in there

it takes a while for it to form, so if you just brushed it a few days ago, you won't notice any new growth...

it can take up to a month ........ use some purple up if your worried about it , i dont recomend it but if your that worried about it

I have some base rock and some shells in my tank and it's been about a month to a month and a half since i started with a toothbrush and i am just seeing green,red,purple spots on them. Takes awhile but it will take off once more starts to grow.

ive got a piece of base rock and it has a few very small spots of light pink/white growth but the rock that origianlly had the coraline isn't doing anything. Well I'll keep trying and hopefully I'll get this to work soon. i know I'll be on here in a few months asking the best way to scrap off coraline from the glass.

How much rock do you actually have that has a good amount of coraline algae on it and how often do you scrub it?
