coraline on rocks

Make sure your Alk and calcium are at proper levels. Minimize any phosphates if you have any. Run your actinic lighting an hour or so prior to your daylights in the morning cycle and leave them on an hour or so after the daylights have shut off on your evening cycle. IMO Coraline algea likes the blue spectrum of lighting it seems to spread more.

Purple up is basically a dose of calcium, be carful if you dose, always test before doing so. And if you are going to dose calcium its important you test for magnesium too.

I have never used it... I have a calcium reactor...
I know some people that have used it with no problems...
That’s good to know thanks

What is your lighting? how long have you had this tank set up? Is there any coraline on your rock now? If not get a pice that has some on it...

Tank is set up 1yr. yes rock has some coraline on them. lighting are just 2 power strips with power-glo bulbs

The issue you have is... first your lighting is not the best for coraline algea growth, and I am thinking your bulbs arent the right type either. You need to have a better bulb in general than your current set up to stimulate photosynthesis in your tank. I am also guessing that your salinity is lower than it should be for a reef system, mainly because you have a FOWLR system. Low salinity would result in low calcium, insufficient lighting along with your salinity is going to slow down your coraline algea growth a lot.

Its mostly timing and be patient and you need at least one rock with coralline on it to seed the other rocks with enough flow and time and correct amount of calcium it will purple up in no time where it becomes annoying.

time like 4-8 months after ur tanks been up. but rememeber, once u hv coraline algae, u cant get rid of them.

But isnt that what you want for you live rock? isnt it a sign of a healthy tank and your fish will appreciate it?

Keep up with inside glass cleaning. Purple up will make coraline grow like wildfire under right conditions

My calcium level is always low 400 high 520 I have about 18 corals so they eat up the calcium I dose liquid calcium every 3 weeks to keep these levels.I run the actinics several hours before and after the MH go on. I have 125 lb's of LR and pinkish to light purple coraline algae on the rocks in the middle and above not anything insane on the glass or to the point where I have to scrape I use a mag. weekely to clean up or sometimes every 5 days. My tank has been up and running for a while now almost a year but got the MH's and actinics and corals around 4 months ago. I didn't pay attention to the Cal. levels untill i got around 6 corals a few months ago...anyways to speed up the process I recently dosed with "purple up" for the past 3 days (in 80 gal. RT 4 caps-20/ml for 3 days.) So far no noticable difference should I continue to dose ? Wait a few days ? Or should I be expecting soon an insane amount of purple coraline algae ? (hope I didin't put in too much already)
Is it better to dose directly into the DT by the return pump and or PH ? Or better into the sump ?

dont dose every day. u only hv to do it once or twice a week to speed up its growth. also, make sure to test daily if u r dosing. i used purple up in the past, and hv to say it helped.
