coraline question

OK, so I know what coraline algae IS, at least to some extent, but after searching the board I haven't really found anything that says what it DOES, at least no more than to say it's "beneficial."
Can someone give me the "Scientific details" as to what it does and how to make it thrive? Granted, I understand it's good for the tank, I just want to know the why's and how's to it all.
Thanks,
Farmer B.

No scientific details but as far as benefits, it looks nice and eats up real estate that undesireable algae will have a difficult time colonizing on.
In my experience coralline grows fast (often too fast  ) with a balanced level of Carbonate and Calcium, moderate to low light, and good water flow.

It looks nice and prevents other algae from growing.
Good water flow, calcium levels at 400, and it prefers bluer lights.

What things can I do to increase coralline growth? I'm not gettin much as of now and my water param's are good. Is there something I can put in the tank to get it goin with coralline? Also, I got 2 lbs of LFS reef rubble/live sand type stuff and there seems to be alot of red looking "fuzz" that came out of it right at first. It came out of a tank that had fiji rock in it. What might it be?

Put some direct current on the rock that has coraline and give it a couple scrapes with a credit card or some thing plastic. The current will help with spreading the spores throught the tank and scraping the rock will release the spores from the coraline. Keep your CA in check along with all other perams.

How quick will the coralline start to grow once the spores are blown around?
Dumb question, but are there any household items I can use to speed up the coralline process?

Only time will tell, each tank is different so there is no time frame.
You could try using a product by marc weiss called Coral Vital. Some people on this board tried it and had great coraline growth and others have not. I myself have tried it and seen a little more growth than with out it. (PATIENCE) is key
