What's the best method of getting coralline algae to flourish and spread? I am sure alot of factors come into play so i will list some of mine as i don't have all test kits.
Sal - 1.024
PH- 8.2
Amonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nirtrate- 10 - 20 ppm
calcium - No test kit i have one arriving thursday
Phosphates - same as calcium test
I use RO/DI water for top offs and water changes and use Instant Ocean salt.
i also bought a toothbrush today to scrub my LR.

Everyone is right about the time issue, but note that purple coralline algae LOVES blue lights (attinic) as well as lots of water flow, with those two things along side the proper chemical balance it will take off like a rocket ship. Now im not sure others views on the product....but i use Purple up, i use it, my tank has a decent amount of CA growth, and note my tank is only 4 months old

Mine is a new system also, my friends ad every book I have read say time! From 90 to 120 days of run time is about the average for good coraline deveopment. I too am using Purple up" I guess I am trying to speed up TIME. All of my friends tanks are quite nicely covered and here every one just uses Time, turbo calcium, and dKH Superbuffer. :happyfish

The most important factors for growing coraline: proper levels of--calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, pH, and no phosphates. Along with moderate lighting and you will be scraping it weekly. Trust me

Lights, Time...and I agree, Purple Up. Cost - 20 bucks or soo and if you buy it, MAKE SURE YOU SHAKE THE BOTTLE...but it has doubled my CA growth FAST.
