how to promote coralline algae growth in my tank?

The rock will just naturally develop coralline as long as you are maintaining your tank, using a good salt mix and adequate light. I never used any additives at all and everything including the back and sides was covered in a matter of months. I use Reef Crystals salt and do a 20% water change a minimum of every two weeks.

sounds good, i do the same as water changes 20% every two weeks or 10% every week.for salt i use tropic marin and i have halides for lighting.

YOu should be seeing the pink and purple pretty soon!
Include a scraper in your maintenance pak as you will need to scrape it off of any areas you want to be able to see into!

I have used tropic marin for years and still only have very little coralline algae and use power compacts . coral seams to respond well to every thing i am doing,fish have lived for years.Still no algae.

Maintaining an adequate calcium level and if you have very little Coralline adding a well corallined "Seed Rock" will speed the process. Time is the one factor that is necessary to develop good coralline. There are times I wish I had less, scraping it off the side and front glass will become a daily chore. Here is a shot of the "Seed Rock" I added two years ago.

tank maturity and a bit of time is how i got mine, then it will grow like crazy... i use reef crystal salt and add nothing, just make sure you have some sort of coraline growth somewhere on your rocks first...

we have coralline growing like crazy on the front of our tank, we can't scrape fast enough. i don't know how to reduce it but am wondering if it's from having 130# of live rock in a 92 gallon tank? if anyone loves to scrape, you're welcome to drop by!

If you have any coraline on your rock just scrape some and let it blow around in the tank that will help if you have none in your tank borrow a rock from a friend and it will work quicker

You can also get a fellow reefer to give you there coraline scrapings from there glass.

i use to have that no coraline problem.. not anymore.. get a calcium and alk test kits and calcium & alk sups...
if you have a some caraline present int he tank
keep the calk in the range of 380-440 and alk in the range of 8-10 dkh
once it grow on the glass.. everytimes you scrape, you spread and 'seed' other spot in the tank...
as for lighting.. they dont need much.. lights equivalent to pc's ( pc's are outdated imo.. go t5ho) is all you need
and it will take off in no time!!! i use to think that WC's was all i needed but nope.. they might not be in the right range .. like IO.. the alk is good but the calkis low.. i think it's 360.. so i have to bump it up to 400 when i do WC's to keep constant ...
