when can i start to add mushrooms i would like somehting decorate my tank with so i would like to pick some easy to care for mushrooms and maybe some others that pepole reccomend.
my tank is cycled and i dont have a powerhead.. one so soon come though there is live rock and cleaner shrimp and hermits as well as reefsafe fish and snails.

I think most of the mushrooms are safe to go pretty quick. I would think if you could keep the shrimp alive and had atleast a decent set of pc's you could go ahead and get shrooms anytime.

what do you mean by keeping the shrimp alive? and also i bought the tank from a good lfs so he said that the lights were a good set it isnt as high as some like the ones that appear almost a light blue but he clainms they are goo di have no clue about the light lol
i am using instant ocean saltfor salt he said to switch to red sea.. so i did umm should i not put anything in till i do enough waterchanges to balance out the 2 salts to the red sea is the majority???
HMMM  well what are some easy good looking mushrooms ? its a 30 gal if it helps

What I meant was if the shrimp lived the mushroom should live. As far as the lights go what do the bulbs look liki and how long are they? I could probably guess from there. As far as the Instant ocean I have used it for years with great success. I would not worry about changing water trying to flush it out. Let us know as much info on the lights as you can figure out.

If you have a 30 gal then you only have 0.75 watt per gallon. I really think you want more light than that even for mushrooms... I think instant ocean is one of the best salts on the market, especially the reef salt, but you don't need that yet. I think you need more light and then go with various mushrooms and some colt or xenia and maybe star polyps for easy, hardy corals.
I think most LFS ppl don't know about the hobby

I have to agree that you need more light. That just isn't going to sustain anything over time. Get some more lights and get your power head then get some coral. Till then just don't rush.

corals need a minimum of 3 wats per gallon of light to actually penatrate through the water. 30 gallon tank needs min of 90 wats of light.just upgraded my lights.most places/people who sell coral the first question was about lighting to make shure you have enough to keep the corals alive becouse 90% of there food is based on the ability to use phtosynthasis(not shure if i spelled that correct )hope this helps ya and good luck

well, you already got a shrimp... there are some colorful snails and hermit crabs. You MIGHT be able to grow some caluerpa but that is only a MAYBE with that light... If you are interested in soft corals I think everyone here would say it is worth the money to upgrade your lights. You don't need to jump right in to MH or anything, for example you could pick up a 30" 65watt pc with lunar lights online for like $70.00, then if you keep your 20watter you would have 85watts which is enough for some softies. And your fish will look more vivid along with being able to sustain coraline algae.

mushrooms like green hairy, blue and red do surprisingly well in low light. I have a set of T-5's and have to put the 'rooms low to get them to open.
