softies = any coral that is soft with no skeleton. Xenias, leathers, colt, shrooms, star polyps, etc...

ok so then i have what i can have so here comes my confusion..my star polyps are like weeds everywhere and big. my tank is 17 months old and i bought most of my corals in about the same month or so period, the star polyps have went from the size of a super ball to the size of a football and that is after taking off frags for a friend where everything else seems to still be the same size, not to mention the star polyps that have moved to other rock and started growing.i use kent essential elements and iodine, and just recently purchased purple up since i have very little growth for the age of my tank.thanks for your help.

PURPLE UP IS EVIL! it should only be used on new tanks it can be leathal to some clams and detrimental to the health of some corals! if you want better coraline growth I reccomend Longer low light periods mostly actinic. and high water flow. if you point a power head where you want the coraline to grow you can "spot" grow it. coraline likes high flow and mediocre lighting. plus if you have some coraline developing on a rock or glass use an algae pad to scrape some off and put it in particle form drifting in the water it will help it spread as some will re-adhere and start new clusters. please avoid purple up in an established tank it is a waste of your money and could damage some of your corals and other reef life.
