Cork and Saltwater

Hi all:
Does anyone out ther know if corck will decompose or alter the anatomy of saltwater? I have a wet dry sump and the little bubbles foam splash around an opening of the lid.
If I can float a small piece of cork 3x3 1/4 inch thick or so it will take care of the problem.
I just don't want to place the cork and and find out that it sissolved or released some type of chemical into my water.

The cork will likely rot, and might leech chemicals like tannic acid into the water. How about a piece of foam rubber?
