Nope, it's coraline I'm 100% sure. I know what diatom looks like. It has layers and grows in circle exactly like purple coraline does. I could peel it off the rock with my finger nail. I just leave it there but it looks too ugly I probably will scape them all away

we have one rock totally covered in bright orange coralline. Thats the beauty of buying rock in stages, and from numerous places, you get a nice variety of colors.
