cotton balls in tank...

im not sure what it is but i get cotton ball type things in my tank. they are actually like the cotton part on a q-tip for cleaning your ears....
any idea?

Q-tip sponge (seriously thats what they are called) they are common in newer tanks and appear less and less as the tank matures.

they sit there and filter water..... thats it, they are pretty boring critters.
