i changed my filter this friday...as i do every week on my 29 bio cube....i modded my cartridge filter took out the carbon and have a bag of it along with purigen....and just cut filter floss to size of hte cartridge...i added a spoonful more to the bag of purigen thought i really didnt have alot in the bag but anyways i noticed that today my patch of cyano is turning a darker maroon and the smaller parts of it are "thinning out" and turning lighter...and now its on filter floss could the purigen be killing it or helping remove what ever it needs to eat or is it starting to grow on there since i scooped some out and some got stirred up?...i have reduced my lights and feeding ...im waiting for my new phs to come and i think im going to change the filter again today get that cyano out of the filter

Syphon out the cyano that's still in the tank while doing a water change. That'll help a lot. Are you using R/O water?

You are doing everything you need to do GM, starve the Cyano, Lower nitrates, Phosphates, cut down lighting and feeding, and use ro/di water, you are well on your way, Im not sure the purigen has kicked in yet, but it is said to be a excellent filter media.

Do you have a clean-up crew? Some turbo snails, hermits, sally light foot if aplicable would love to consume that.
