Could someone Identify this?

This Red "tree" is growing off my Tonga Live rock. It started very small and looked feathery. Now it is much larger, and the branches are puffy. My Blenny loves to lay in this and I can easily vaccum it up when I am doing my water changes.
My Mother had this piece of rock in her tank for at least 3 years before I took over the tank.
Is this going to harm my tank, or can I continue to enjoy the beautiful color it adds to my tank?
Thanks!

Well... when I sucked up some of it with the vaccuum it was almost the consistency of Jelly... then when I kept rubbing it together between my fingers it just went away. So I would say it is jelly like?

I agree with this, I have seen this algae but don't know what kind.

so should I get rid of it?
JMO, heck no! I think this is very pretty. If it were me I would just keep a close eye on it and if it starts to get out of hand, vacuum it up. Since the consistency is so soft it should be easy to get rid of if needed.

I think this algea is in the Gracilaria family, but I'm still not sure of the exact name.

I am sure there will be some to spare at the rate it is growing. It seems to only be growing on that Tonga? Would have no clue how to ship it? Where are you from?

Tucson AZ.
Long way from the northeast it sounds.

Let it get established real well and if you would like to send some we'll talk.
Thanks, Moby
