Coupla' little updates...

Since my new lighting has gone in, I've noticed a surge in the green algea formation on my glass. I bucked up and did a big water change yesterday, but before changing the water out I scraped, and scraped, and scraped. Did the change, turned the lights on and thought "what the hell did I just do????". OMG that tank looked hideous!!! I could have cried.

Well, the water cleared, little by little, and all I could do was hope and pray that I didn't compromise my critters in any way. I had fingers crossed, toes crossed, you name it. When I got home from work tonight (expecting the worst) I found that everyone is not only happy and healthy, but doing absolutley GREAT!! My devil's hand has been more vibrant than I think I've ever seen it, and Bozo is completely enamored with it...does that mean anything, by the way? Will I be seeing little clown eggs pretty soon? Cookie hangs out where ever Bozo is, and it seems that even my new mushrooms are finally trying to come to. Happy place in my tank tonight.
So, to celebrate, I decided that I would treat everyone to some Prime Reef. I held half a cube in the water and I thought "I wish all 3 fishes would eat out of my hand"...to this point only Cookie would venture that. Well...yep, all 3 fishes were very comfy eating some Prime Reef out of my hand :jumping:. My brittle stars got some and so did Scampi, my coral banded shrimp.
I just wanted to post this, because after doing that water change and cleaning yesterday, I was so bummed that I might have screwed something up and would lose everyone. But..as it turns out, my tank is just that much better for it. Still needs some work, but the worst is over.
Thanks for reading...

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that my pink zoos are migrating (is that the right term?). I noticed one stretching out to get onto a larger rock next door, and now I noticed today that another has done the same thing but with another little cluster of pinks...very exciting!!

Congratz!!! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that gets completely stressed out about my tank about as much as I enjoy it lol!
You just upgraded to mh, didn't you? Get used to scraping the green algae off of the glass every day or two. :(

Hi Mud,
No, no mh's for me (yet)...but I did upgrade from 1 x 65 to 2 x 65 with blue actinics and moon lights.
Really? You're scraping off all the time??? Please tell me that's a normal thing!! I come home from work every evening lately and scrape off the front glass, and now the side glass. But, if it's something that's to be expected with the higher lights, then I'll do it. I just freak when something weird starts to happen in my tank...yeah, I do stress about it as much as I enjoy it...gotta love it though.

I think it is pretty normal to have to clean the front glass almost daily. I don't clean my side or back glass. I think it looks nice with all the coraline algae on it, plus I need to leave as much undisturbed surface area so that the pod population will be there for my psychedelic mandarin to eat :joy:
