I have a couple of live rock questions that I hope someone can shed some light on. First, does live rock ever die? I mean does it have a life expectancy and after years is it dead and need to be replaced. Second, I moved the rock out of a 30 gal tank i had set up and put it into a 55 gal tank about a month ago. Now in the past couple days I'm noticing small air bubbles on the rock, is this just trapped air finally making its way out? or is this some type of die off, the rock was only out of water for 5 minutes at the most.
thanks to all

As long as you have your liverock submerged in saltwater, it will stay live, although if you plan on keeping some a very long time in a non-aquarium tub of some sort i'd recommend at least putting some sort of powerhead to keep the water moving/aerated.... It never needs to be replaced. Once its in your tank its good essentially forever lol. GOOD NEWS: The bubbles your describing is merely trapped air bubbles. If it was die off you would tell, things would be hanging off your rocks and in some cases you could smell a foul odor coming from your tank...If you want to get rid of them quicker, just swish your rock around a bit or hit the rock directly with a powerhead...

Although it will remain live, it does have a useful life expectancy. After 5 years or so some people have had rock efficiency issues. Use the search function.
Bubbles could also collect on the rock if you have micobubbles in the tank.
