couple questions

Hey guys and gals.
Today I went to one of the LFS around my area and when I looked into the SW tank I noticed a wine bottle and a heineken bottle with coralline growth on it.When I asked the guy he said it took 4 months to get coralline on it. He told me to start using small doses of purple up and it will help, but the LR I got from my LFS has lots of coraline in it.
My question is this:
1)How can I go about doing this?Do I boil the glass and clean off the sticker and then place it in my tank?
And one more question what is a good test kit that I should get because I own the aquarium pharmaceutical and the test strips are hard to read, not to much color difference especially on the nitrate card.

I don't know why you would want to do this, I guess it makes your tank look more realistic like the real coral reefs that are full of garbage

There is a guy on another site with a 10+ yr old reef that has numerous bottles and stuff...all covered in coraline. I suppose his goal was a realistic look.....sort of trying to re-create a actual dive in a trash & littler infested site. Not a look I'd go for....but the pics of his display are sweet!!!!
